Clinical Series: Direct Resins

Live CE Webcast, •Friday, May 21, 2021 • 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Repairing carious lesions or traumatized teeth with direct composite resin restorations remains one of the core areas of dentistry. With the evolution from silicate cements and acrylics to amalgam to composites, treatment options have continued to improve. Understanding the newest formulations and the instruments used in applying them is essential in providing high-quality treatment. Join Robert C. Margeas, DDS, as he and a panel of experts explore the clinical indications, applications, and best practices for flowables, bulk fills, and nano and universal composites, as well as for polishers, instruments, and handpieces.

11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time

Program Agenda
11:00 AM - 11:10 AM ET
Welcoming Remarks
Robert C. Margeas, DDS

11:10 AM - 12:15 PM ET
The What, When, and Why of Flowable Composites
Thomas Dudney, DMD
Flowable composite have undergone beneficial changes to improve their clinical performance since they were first introduced. This 45-minute webinar will discuss the science behind these changes and illustrate these materials’ use in a variety of clinical procedures.

12:15 PM - 1:20 PM ET
Bulk Fill Composites
Nathaniel Lawson, DMD, PhD
Bulk fill composites allow curing in up to 4-mm increments. This increased depth of cure allows more efficient filling protocols with larger increments of composite or a margin of safety with conventional layering techniques. Prior to using bulk fill composites, the clinician should identify if the depth of cure of the composite is adequate and understand the effects of materials and techniques on the ensuing shrinkage stress. This lecture will provide an overview of different bulk fill composites, research related to their physical and mechanical properties, and clinical applications for these materials.

1:20 PM - 2:25 PM ET
The Art & Science of Composite Artistry
Adamo Notarantonio, DDS
This lecture will focus on materials, armamentarium and techniques that allow one to achieve excellence in anterior composite restorations.

2:25 PM - 3:30 PM ET
Creating Natural Esthetics Through Contouring & Polishing, Instruments and Techniques
Marcos Vargas, BDS, DDS, MS
Direct resin composite restorations are the most common restorative procedure in dentistry. Proper contouring and polishing result in nature mimicking esthetic resin composite restorations. A step-by-step protocol will be presented to achieve high esthetics with direct restorations. Furthermore, instrumentation and the use of electric handpieces for contouring and polishing will be discussed.
